This far outweighs the 0 MP damage output of whips. She can throw around Kaboom (expensive but does a lot of explosion damage to all enemies) and Kafrizzle (great single-target fire spell) almost without stopping. Combine that with the max MP bonus of equipping a staff and now Jessica can now sling spells around a bunch even on long dungeon crawls. It regenerates a pretty good amount of MP. How did I not notice this before? I guess I was just way too stingy with MP in the past. One staff skill gave MP regeneration at the end of the round. Healing is still his forte and he picked up Kazing for reliable resurrections. His swords stagnated for a while until I crafted him a great weapon (see below) then his Falcon Slash became significant again. It does more damage than Boom, which is a good spell, and costs half the MP with a paralyze component! It’s also about Angelo’s only option to hit all enemies. Hits all enemies for great damage and will paralyze about a quarter of them. It’s a reference to similar skills for DQ4 (from Torneko and his merchant army) and DQ Monsters.Īngelo – I don’t remember Charming Look from past runs but damn that is a nice skill. The skill has him call King Trode and “a gang of old geezers” (various NPCs) to stampede on the enemy for multiple hits. He also learns the humorous Golden Oldies skill for max Humanity. Gets an upgrade to the Executioner skill (skill which either hits for a critical or misses with a high miss chance) which is great for hunting metal slimes. Gets some more axe upgrades in the late game after a mid-game lull. I gave him the Miracle Sword (get back some HP based on damage done) and Sacred Armor (regen HP at end of every round) which made him even tougher to kill. His bread and butter is still Falcon Slash and having a bunch of HP, attack, and defense but the MP reduction adds to his versatility. With the MP cost reduction Omniheal is actually reasonable to use in tough boss fights. Finally, it gives him another traditional hero-only spell in Omniheal (fully restore HP of whole party). It also allows him to use attacks spells, such as the all-hitting lightning spell Zap, more often. The highest reduction is half off spells! This makes the Guv great for out of battle healing since he effectively has double the MP. The Guv – In the high levels the Courage skill tree gives MP reductions.
